Five dangerous things you should let your children do. Gever Tulley.

When we are born we have an innate tendency toward experimentation and learning. For this reason toys bore so much our children. As soon as they learn everything they can learn from them, kids throw them away and they start to hit the remote control until they open it in order to learn things on their new level. We are not passive; we are designed for the activity and commitment. We achieve to kill their initiative and creative when we leave them watching TV, when we go on with many restrictions "for their safety" and when we do things ourselves  instead of letting them do it because we think they are not able, we do not have time or do not want them to get dirty. Moreover, we prevent the establishment of synaptic brain connections generated by all these new experiences so silly for us but so important for them.

You may think that many of the activities of this blog are basic and simple,
so you do not do them. You may think, "my son is able to do that and you dismissed it.” I think all of us can do almost everything, but the important thing is to do it, because it is then when you learn of such activity or of its derivation. Try that your kids make varied and not repetitive activities, whether these ones or others. Invite them to the world of new experiences.

  1. I love this TED talk. I try to promote creative thinking and exploration of media at The Book Chook. Not only do I believe in this way of life for children, but for we adults as well.

  3. Thanks for sharing this! It brings me back to the "olden" days when we actually used to do things like this. :)

And thank you for stopping by my blog!
